was an avid temperance worker.

Drawing of Anne Whitney, 1821 1915. Grew up on Galen Street in the John Hunt
house. Celebrated sculptor whose works include Sam Adams in front of Faneuil Hall and
Charles Sumner at the delta in Harvard Square, Cambridge.
Agnes Howard White (Mrs. Arthur Lithgoe Devens), 1839 1869
Portrait of Nathaniel Whitney, 1789 1876(?). Built a mansion on the corner
of Church and Marshall Streets. He once entertained Charles Dickens here. Cofounded a bank
in the Noyes Block on Main Street.
Statue of Charles Sumner by Anne Whitney. This design was submitted to a Boston
Committee anonymously and was rejected when it was discovered that the sculptor was a
woman. The work was later commissioned by a group of friends and was placed in Harvard
Square.
